We traveled 9 hours yesterday and are now in North Platte, Nebraska. The drive was uneventful....the Oklahoma, Kansas, and Nebraska landscapes are pretty monotonous. But we arrived safely and were able to have a good meal at a restaurant called The Depot in downtown North Platte. It's sad to see Nancy alone. She told us about her experiences of traveling here over the last 5 days, and the challenges of doing it by herself. She's doing well though; has an upbeat attitude, and had our hotel room stocked with snacks, drinks and candy. She's always thinking of others.
Today we're up and getting ready to head to the Fort McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell, Nebraska, to bury Gene's remains. There will be a veterans ceremony at 11:30. My hope (and prayer) is that what is done will help Nancy feel like we've honored Gene's memory and final wishes. Hopefully we can take some pictures that we can share. I'll update more in the next few days. Thanks for your thoughts and prayers!
Melody
